So why are we using Casa Luker for all of our delicious chocs?
In 2018 we make the transition from Belgian chocolate to Casa Luker: a large Colombia-based family owned business that has now been an established chocolate manufacturer for 110 years.
We wanted to source a chocolate that not is only the best quality for our products, but was ethically produced too. And we fell in love with the story of this Colombian business. Not only do they make delicious chocolate, but they're improving their community too and we think that's pretty cool.
One of the biggest reasons for this change for the Cocoa Delicious brand, is the history of Colombian chocolate: They are known locally for producing drinking chocolate made from 100% cocoa mass, and this is one of the reasons behind the fact that Colombia is not globally recognized as an origin chocolate producer. Up until recently, the country has consumed nearly its entire cocoa crop internally mainly as drinking chocolate, leaving very little to export. Our signature product, the Gourmet Hot Chocolate on a Spoon continues to be the drive behind our brand, making Colombian chocolate the BEST possible choice for us. What better chocolate for a hot chocolate spoon than a business world renown for drinking chocolate - yum!
Colombia has some of the best “Fino de Aroma” cocoa beans in the world; a category established by the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) for cocoa that reaches certain flavour, aroma, and quality levels. Only 8% of the total global cocoa crop is granted this premium status..and it just doesn't get much better than that.
All of the chocolate is produced in Colombia and exported to more than 35 countries across the world as a true origin producer from tree to chocolate.
What's more, the beans are bought locally through agreements with cocoa cooperatives instead of the stock market, shortening the supply chain meaning more money goes back to the origin country. This also means they have a very close relationship with their farmers too, and we love that this also means that all the chocolate we use is obtained DIRECTLY from where it is sourced,
More than 800 people are trained every year within their "Grandja Luker" research centre, which provides their farmers with the necessary knowledge to build profitable cocoa farms that will have a great impact on their quality of life.
Another big contributing factor for our shift to this beautiful Colombian chocolate, is their flavours, which distinguish it from other cocoas in the world; fruity and flowery aromas and flavours with nutty malt notes make this chocolate an obvious choice for our chocolate products.
